Last Minute Camps

By Lisa Dunleavy July 28, 2016
Since many traditional day camps end by mid-August, it can be hard to keep your kids busy during those last two weeks before school begins. Here are some ideas of camps that currently have availability (please check with the camp directly to make sure there are still spots left).

YMCA - Camp Combe --  A traditional day camp in Putnam Valley, this YMCA camp features all the traditional camp activities such as swimming, archery, zip line, games, crafts, nature and much more.  I can personally vouch for this terrific camp as my boys have gone here for many years.  Camp Combe has limited availability for kids in grades 1-6 the week of August 22 - 26.  For more information, go to the Camp Combe website

Brewster Sports Center - John Wallace Summer Basketball Camp.  Former Syracuse University and New York Knick star John Wallace is the guest instructor at this basketball camp which runs from August 22 - 26. The camp will focus on basic skill development to improve and prepare for the upcoming basketball season. Details and pricing are online at the Brewster Sports Center website

Summer Sports Camp - US Sports Institute.  If you are looking for a general sports camp, the US Sports Institute holds a camp in Chappaqua from August 22 - 25.  Children ages 5 - 11 can participate in full-day or half day programs held at the Recreation Field in downtown. Kids can experience 15 different sports in one week including soccer, lacrosse and basketball.  There is also a one-hour program for kids ages 3-5.  For more information, go to their website

Mike Risko Music School -- Rock Band Camp and Musical Theater Camp.  Mike Risko Music School has two options for a camp the week of August 22nd.  Rock Band Camp will teach your child what it is like to be in a rock band while Musical Theater Camp is a one week intensive workshop where kids will sing, act and dance.  For more details and pricing go to the Mike Risko Music School website

Summer STEM and Tech Camps are available at the Digital Arts Experience in White Plains the week of August 29 - September 2nd.  Choose from options for younger kids such as Making Lego Movies or for older kids such as Intro to 3D Animation. For more information, go to their website

The Katonah Art Center has camps available both of the last weeks of August.  Options include Pottery and Stop Motion Animation for kids in grade 1-6.  They also have camps for older kids those same weeks covering topics such as Jewelry: Beads & Leather and Fused Glass & Mosaics. For more information, go to the KAC website.
