By Shonan Noronha April 19, 2024

Westmoreland Sanctuary will be bringing their beloved corn snake, toad, box turtle and other treasures to join the tribute to mother Earth in Mount Kisco. The celebration this Sunday, April 21st, runs from noon to 4pm at Fountain Park, in front of tVillage Hall.

“The Earth Day celebration is a great time to remember our local animal friends and how we can steward them in our neighborhoods and green spaces,” said Steve Ricker, Director of Conservation and General Manager of Westmoreland Sanctuary.

Headlining the event at 12:15pm, renowned ecologist Dr. Nigel Sizer will share his knowledge of our forests and biodiversity, and celebrate some of the simple things we can do right now to help make every day Earth Day.

Live music from the Sarah Browne band, and more than a dozen info tables and green crafts opportunities, will enable families to enjoy an afternoon while learning how to save our planet for the children.

Robin Buco from ‘All Together Now Kids’ will show budding environmentalists how to make a bee motel and Jessica Colon from ‘For the People and Kids’ will help kids create “seed balls” to help enrich our environment.

Deputy Mayor Theresa Flora will highlight ways to help save Monarch Butterflies, and how to responsibly raise Monarchs in your own back yard. Judy Terlizzi, founding member of the Friends of Flewellyn Garden, will share her wealth of knowledge on growing native plants.

At 3pm, Village Historian Harry McCartney will lead an entertaining natural history walk along the nearby Branch Brook Greenway; join in his popular hot/cold game quest for birds and other local treasures.

Every family attending the celebration can receive a free take-home-and-grow native tree sapling, and a raffle will feature a variety of Green prizes.
