Macaroni KID Guide to Weekend Getaways

Drive to one of these area favorites for a special occasion with your partner

By Kelly Fitzpatrick January 27, 2023

Looking for a weekend getaway you can drive to from Westchester County?  Macaroni KID Armonk - Chappaqua - Mount Kisco - Pleasantville has rounded up 11 mini-road trips for you to enjoy with your partner or with friends.  And while we love the kids, these locations have been specifically chosen for what they offer the grown-up crowd including great hikes, shopping, craft culture and more.  Whether it’s a babymoon, an anniversary, or a birthday present, our list of towns within driving distance will not disappoint.  Since it's too hard to pick our favorite, they have been arranged in order of distance using The Westchester Mall as a central starting point.

New Paltz, NY - 1 hour 10 minutes from The Westchester Mall

Known for hiking, hippies, and apple-picking, this college town offers great nature and kitsch.

We love: Huckleberry Restaurant

Long Island’s North Fork, NY - 1 hour 30 minutes from The Westchester Mall

This is New York’s wine country, and you’ll definitely want to take in a tour or two.  If wine isn’t your thing, breweries and distilleries also dot the coastal scenery, and you’ll enjoy the farm-to-table vibe.  There's also the beach!

Rhinebeck, NY - 1 hour 30 minutes from The Westchester Mall

Rhinebeck is buzzing with community and culture and has beautiful views of the Catskill Mountains.  It makes for a great day trip, as well as a weekend away.  A good spot for foodies.

Hudson, NY - 1 hour 40 minutes from The Westchester Mall

An easy drive north, you’ll enjoy the antiques, the food, and the walkable downtown with river views.  This is one of our favorite places to spend a day away.

For breakfast: Le Perche (leperchehudson.com)

Mystic, CT - 1 hour 45 minutes from The Westchester Mall

A beautiful harbor, scenic New England feel, Christmas markets, shopping, pizza, and an aquarium are some of this charming town’s claims to fame.

For fun eats: Riverfront Seafood Snack Bar Mystic | Sea View Snack Bar

The Berkshires, MA - 2 hours from The Westchester Mall

The perfect place to go any time of year - snow culture in the winter and festival feel in the warmer months.

Pocono Mountains, PA - 2 hours from The Westchester Mall

Great spots to hike, cozy lodges and spas, as well as great towns for antiquing. You can also try your luck at one of the area's casinos.

Towns we love: Jim Thorpe and Milford

Newport, Rhode Island - 2 hours 30 minutes from The Westchester Mall

You’ll get that Gatsby feel on the cliff walk taking in the mansions and the beach.  Great strolls, tasty restaurants, and so much to do.

Saratoga Springs, NY - 2 hours 40 minutes from The Westchester Mall

Mineral springs, restaurants, and shopping, Saratoga Springs is known for its numerous spas.

Cape May, NJ - 3 hours from The Westchester Mall

Old Victorian mansions, lighthouses, the beach, and great restaurants - you’ll love the romantic feel in the sea air.  The plane museum is also surprisingly fun on cold, wet, or windy days.

Ogunquit, Maine - 4 hours from The Westchester Mall

While we are headed more to an extra-long weekend when the drive stretches to four hours, Ogunquit is an artsy and effortlessly cool town that you’ll want to come back to again and again.  It’s laid back, but well-appointed with lots to see and do, including explore the coast.

Finger Lakes, NY - 4 hours, 20 minutes from The Westchester Mall

Another amazing all-season destination known for wine trails, museums, and nature.
