Pick Your Own Fruit and Vegetables

Picking your own fruits and vegetables is a fun, family-friendly activity and also a great way to encourage healthy eating for your kids. There are a couple of great farms to check out in Westchester and even more if you are willing to drive a bit further north. Here are some ideas of places to go to pick your own produce in August.

Hilltop Hanover Farm, 1271 Hanover Street, Yorktown Heights. Seasonal fruits and vegetables are available to be picked every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  To see what is currently available, visit their website at hilltophanoverfarm.org.

Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm, 1335 White Hill Road, Yorktown Heights. You can pick your own peaches and nectarines beginning August 13th. The farm is open for "pick your own" from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Check the website before you go at wilkensfarm.com.

Fishkill Farms, 9 Fishkill Farm Road, Hopewell Junction, NY.  The farm is open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. They charge $5 per person admission for adults and children over 12. Currently you can pick organic blackberries plus eggplant, summer squash, basil and more vegetables. Fishkill Farms is hosting "Peachtopia" on August 12th featuring peach picking and outdoor kids activities. The drive to this farm from Chappaqua is approximately 45 minutes. Barton Orchards, 63 Apple Tree Lane, Poughquag, NY (about 50 minutes from our area). Peaches, Peppers and Green Beans are available for picking this weekend.  The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call first for availability or visit their website at bartonorchards.com.

Mead Orchards, 15 Scism Road, Tivoli, NY. Peach picking is underway.  The farm is open for pick-your-own on weekends from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. The drive to this orchard is approximately 90 minutes from our area. For more information, call 845-756-5641 or visit their website at meadorchards.com.

Lawrence Farm Orchards, 306 Frozen Ridge Road, Newburgh, NY.  Open from 9-4 daily.  Admission is $3 per person. Yellow and white peaches plus some vegetables are ready to be picked. Call 845-562-4268 or visit their website at lawrencefarmsorchards.com. The drive to this farm from Chappaqua is approximately 1 hour.

Ochs Orchard, 4 Ochs Lane, Warwick, NY. This orchard is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.  Call 845-986-1591 or visit their website at ochsorchard.net. The drive to this farm from Chappaqua is approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes.

Greig Farm, 178 Pitcher Lane, Red Hook, NY.  Open every day from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Currently you can pick blueberries and blackberries. Call 845-758-1234 or visit their website at greigfarm.com. The drive to this farm from Chappaqua is approximately 90 minutes.

Rose Hill Farm, 19 Rose Hill Farm, Red Hook, NY.  Open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.  Currently you can pick four different kinds of blueberries and peaches are coming soon! Call in advance for availability at or check their website at pickrosehillfarm.com.
