Vitaly: An Evening of Wonders - A Review

By Lisa Dunleavy August 8, 2018

Macaroni Kid Chappaqua was invited to check out the Off-Broadway show Vitaly: An Evening of Wonders. I had never been to an illusionist show before --- I had seen them on TV but this was my first show of this kind in person and I really enjoyed it. Vitaly Beckman has been practicing the art of illusion since he was 14 years old. He made a name for himself when he successfully fooled Penn & Teller on their TV show "Fool Us."

Vitaly's illusions were truly amazing.  He made faces disappear off driver's licenses that he gathered from members of the audience! He made a paint brush work on its own and did a variety of illusions using playing cards and photographs. I don't want to spoil the show so I won't go into too many details.

The show is definitely filled with audience participation.  I usually shrink in my seat when entertainers are looking for volunteers to go on stage but somehow he found me! I was part of one illusion where Vitaly was blindfolded and had to pour three different liquids into three different glasses and hand each of us (three volunteers) the correct beverage that we asked for.  It was actually a lot of fun to be up on stage.

This show is perfect for kids because the illusions are amazing but nothing is scary. The show also runs for a little over an hour so it is not too long for kids to sit through. The show is recommended for children 8+.
