Apple Picking Guide in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley

Apple picking season is here!  Here are some local places to go in Westchester County (and further north in the Hudson Valley) to pick apples plus find pumpkins and sweet treats such as cider donuts.

Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm -- located in Yorktown Heights, this farm has Gala, MacIntosh, Baldwin, Cortland and Macoun apples available to pick this month.  Later in October you will find Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and other varieties of apples to pick. Contact the farm in advance to find out exactly what is available.  The farm is open daily from 10 am - 4:30 pm. The farm is located at 1335 White Hill Road, Yorktown Heights. Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard -- Apple picking is available daily from 9 am - 4:30 pm at this farm in North Salem. Weekend Fall Festivals run every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am - 5 pm through October 27. Festivals include apple picking plus enjoy hayrides, a bounce house, face painting, live music & more. Stuart's Fruit Farm -- This farm has over 20 varieties of apples to pick in September and October.  September apples include: MacIntosh, Jonamac, Cortland, Macoun and Gala. The farm is open for picking daily from 10 am - 5 pm. On weekends, you can take hayrides out to the orchards from 11 am - 5 pm. Outhouse Orchards -- This family owned and operated farm in North Salem is currently open from 9 am - 5 pm daily to pick a variety of apples (plus pears and peaches).  Other fun for kids includes a corn maze and hayrides. $5 parking fee on weekends. Lawrence Farms Orchards -- Located in Newburgh, NY (less than an hour from our area), this farm is currently picking five varieties of apples plus other fruits and vegetables. This family owned farm also has a "Little Village" (reminiscent of an old-fashioned New England farm town) and hay bale maze. Lawrence Farms Orchards GPS address is 306 Frozen Ridge Road, Newburgh. Weed Orchards & Winery -- This 40 acre pick-your-own farm is located at 43 Mount Zion Road in Marlboro, NY (about an hour from our area). Their farm is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on weekends. Apple picking is in full swing plus they have hayrides (on weekends), a petting zoo, a corn maze and more. Fishkill Farms -- For more than just apple picking, head to Fishkill Farms which includes an apple orchard and diversified fruit and vegetable farm. In addition to 40 acres of apples, they grow peaches, nectarines, pears, a variety of vegetables and pumpkins, all of which are available in season for pick-your-own. Fishkill Farms hosts Fall Festivals on weekends including wagon rides and live music. $5 admission fee (children 12 and under are free). Open from 9 am - 5 pm, Fishkill Farms is located at 9 Fishkill Farm Road, Hopewell Junction, NY. Check out their website or call 845-897-4377 for more information.

Barton Orchards -- This 120 acre farm is open daily from 9 am - 5 pm and stays open to 6 pm on weekends. $ 6.00 admission includes tractor-pulled hay rides, live music and entertainment, petting zoo, goat walk, wooden ship playground, and kiddie hay maze. Purchase a Fun Pass Wrist Band for $17.00 which includes everything in farm admission plus 5 acre Corn Maze with games, "Who Done It" maze, peddle karts, Haunted House, Barton Express train ride, gigantic family bounce pad, huge tube slides, ball toss and more. DuBois Farm -- this 54-acre farm offers tractor-pulled wagon rides, a corn maze, and a petting zoo along with pick your own apples, pumpkins, pears, and peaches. Wilklow Orchards -- this farm in Highland, NY includes a wide variety of apple picking plus a petting zoo, hay jump, and "greenhouse" of fun (which includes crafts for little ones).
