While we don't have a lot of snow on the ground right now -- there are still plenty of outdoor, winter activities nearby for you to check out with your kids. Click on the links below (in pink) to get more information on each venue.
Snow Tubing is fun for kids of all ages (and adults!). Some of these mountains have options for young children, others have height restrictions.
- Campgaw Mountain (Mahwah, NJ) -- about a 40 minute drive from our area.
- Mt. Peter (Warwick, NY) -- about a 1 hour drive from our area. Best option for families with young children.
- Holiday Mountain Ski and Fun Park (Monticello, NY) -- about at 1 hour, 15 minute drive from our area.
Skiing
- Thunder Ridge (Patterson, NY) -- the closest ski mountain to our area, Thunder Ridge has learn to ski programs for children as young as 4.
- Mohawk Mountain (Cornwall, CT) -- about a 1 hour, 15 minute drive from our area, Mohawk Mountain has a Snowhawks children's group lesson program from ages 5-12.
Ice Skating
- Harvey School (Katonah, NY) - public recreational skate on 12/27, 1/20 and 2/17 from 12:45-2:45pm in partnership with the Bedford Parks and Recreation department, no skate rentals.
- Westchester Skating Academy (Elmsford, NY) - public skating is offered daily and ice skating lessons are offered Wednesday through Monday for ages 3 and up.
- Ebersole Ice Rink (White Plains, NY) - resident only and public skating sessions are offered throughout the week in addition to learn to skate lessons and figure skating lessons.
- Hommocks Ice Rink (Larchmont, NY) - public sessions are offered throughout the week and their learn to skate program starts at age 4.
- Playland Ice (Rye, NY) - located between Playland Park and the Westchester Children's Museum, public sessions are posted on their website and learn to skate programs start at age 4.
- Palisades Mall Ice Rink (West Nyack, NY) - located on level 4 of the Palisades Mall - public sessions are scheduled on weekends and school holidays. Learn to skate group classes and private instruction begin at age 4.
- Brewster Ice Arena (Brewster, NY) - Just north in Putnam County, public recreational sessions are offered daily and lessons start at age 3.
- Bear Mountain (Bear Mountain, NY) -- Just a short drive north of our area is Bear Mountain Ice Rink. This outdoor ice rink has public skating sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday plus extended hours over the holiday break, including open times on New Year's Eve and Day. Admission is $5 and skate rental is $5. Costs $10 to park on weekends.
