The secret is out about East Coast Sports and Fitness (previously Solaris) in Yorktown Heights! Since opening in April, they've seen a boom in new members, brought in programming for children and adults of all ages, doubled birthday party bookings, and expanded baseball teams - and they are just getting started living their vision of a hub for family life.
This fall you can expect to see opportunities for 8 and under baseball, children's art classes, continued open hours for pickleball, futsall teams, family events, and night out events for parents.
Co-founders Erin and Jason Cohen have been listening closely to the needs of the community while looking for just the right fit in instructors to bring an expanded yoga program to East Coast Sports and Fitness. Their patience has paid off as they welcome Gina Fitzsimons to the East Coast family. Beginning July 15th, Gina will lead weekend yoga classes in the studio. In addition to Gina's Sunday classes, East Coast Sports and Fitness is also home to Hatha Yoga with Stacy Godman and Yoga for Athletes with Diane Massaro. In anticipation of Gina's July 16th start, I was delighted to chat with her a bit ahead of time about what we can expect!
MK: Gina, tell us a little about yourself and your business.
Gina: I am a happily married and mom of four beautiful children and a full-time Registered Nurse/High School Nurse in Westchester, as well as the owner of Serenity G Yoga, LLC. Serenity G. Yoga, LLC is a certified RYT with Yoga Alliance ad includes certifications and training in Ayurvedic Nutritional Coaching* Children's Yoga / Special Needs Yoga * Trauma-Informed*Yin and Restorative Yoga for Athletes and Pilates.
MK: How did you get started teaching Yoga?
Gina: I have loved Yoga and Pilates since I was a young girl and started when I attended the New York City of Ballet School. My love and passion for this practice continued throughout my life trying to maintain balance, healthy living and peace within a busy lifestyle. I knew that I wanted to help others feel the benefits of mindfulness, breath and movement in a more playful style and level of Yoga. I believe in Yoga for ALL ages and levels!
MK: What is really special about your offerings?
Gina: I believe Yoga is best practiced by ALL! I offer Serenity Fit Yoga, Yoga for Children, and Yoga for Special Needs Students ...Yoga for ALL!
MK: Who should come to your Sunday classes at East Coast Sports and Fitness?
Gina: My Flow will radiate light through the heart of a curious beginner or a seasoned yogi with breathing and letting go all that binds us!
MK: What can we expect from a Yoga practice with you?
Gina: Clients can expect to have fun! My intention for all classes is to start with a smile, a deep breath of a personal positive intention and then for you to leave class feeling relaxed, more flexible with strength from the inside out.
MK: What are some fun facts or a personal anecdote about your work that you wouldn't mind sharing?
Gina: I always create a theme and a playlist of fun music for each class, It helps me connect with the flow so we can connect together in class and become one. I usually mess up my directions of left and right and laugh in every class. My 12-year-old daughter Julia comes to my classes with me.
