Small Business Spotlight: OT with Stacy

By Stacy Kirsch Dlugacz and Kelly Fitzpatrick November 30, 2023

Macaroni KID Armonk - Chappaqua - Mount Kisco - Pleasantville has recently had the pleasure of getting to know pediatric occupational therapist, Stacy Kirsch, of OT with Stacy.  Stacy brings a wealth of expertise to her private practice, with specialties in treating children with developmental delays, brachial plexus injuries, torticollis, cerebral palsy, genetic conditions, and orthopedic injuries. Stacy's warm manner helps clients to feel at ease, and she is well-versed in supporting both the child and the family in implementing tools and strategies.  Stacy shares more about how she got started, as well as the passion behind her work with our readers here:

What is the story behind your business?  How did you get started?

I have always had a passion for helping children. At 14, I started working at a day camp for special needs children. All throughout high school and college I found myself working with children of all needs. My husband encouraged me to work closer to home, have some more time with my two little children, and help the families of Westchester get the best OT services without having to travel. After having my son, I made the switch from NYU's Rusk Rehabilitation to starting my own business, OT with Stacy. I now go into the homes of my clients and help infants and children who require therapy reach their fullest potential while educating and empowering their parents.

What are some fun facts about you or your business?

I am silly and work with children because they are silly. My job doesn't feel like work, and it allows me to be creative. What I am most passionate about is using toys and equipment that promotes purposeful play in different ways. The toys I recommend can grow with your child for at least a year and help with motor and cognitive development.

What does your business offer its' customers?

It offers the convenience of therapy without having to coordinate travel time, nap schedules, eating, and of course, being unprepared with needing diapers or a change of clothes. I am a mom as well and have had all of those experiences trying to help my children get what they need. I want to be able to decrease the stress of parenthood and make therapy fun and realistic in the comfort and convenience of your own home. It's also helpful to note, that I am results oriented and am a certified rater in assessing hand and arm function for infants and children ages 3 months-18 years.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my passion and drive to help others. Since becoming an occupational therapist in 2009, I have pushed myself to advance my education and improve my clinical skills. In 2014, I became certified in NDT (neurodevelopmental treatment) to help children with neurological conditions. In 2015 I became certified in KinesioTape applications. In 2020-2021, I received an advanced certificate in the rehabilitation of the arm and upper extremity through Jefferson University. Throughout my career, I have spoken nationally and internationally on topics such as birth-related brachial plexus injuries, cerebral palsy, orthopedic injuries, and various therapeutic interventions for infants and children.
