Rockefeller State Park Preserve: Year-Round Outdoor Family Fun

By Kelly Fitzpatrick May 18, 2024

Our family loves to explore the beautiful natural resources in our neck of the woods of Westchester County.  Pleasantville is home to Rockefeller State Park Preserve and a visit there, no matter the season, is always enjoyed.

Rockefeller State Park Preserve has miles and miles of trails that allow for a variety of experiences.  We prefer walking the paths that are easiest for little feet, and for strollers, and our teen enjoys them as well.  The trail around Swan Lake is easily navigated and includes opportunities to see swans, ducks, and turtles.  It's an old carriage trail made of crushed stone and a loop.

Walking in Rockwood Hall is also a fun family hike and has expansive Hudson River views.  The entrance to Rockwood Hall is in a separate parking area. Drive past the main preserve entrance towards Phelps Memorial Hospital.  Although hilly, this path is also easily navigated and has lots to explore.

Rockefeller State Park Preserve hosts many events and activities for people of all ages. In May there is an annual Peony Celebration.  Their peony trees bloom beautifully in April and May around the main entrance and are well-loved by visitors.

Other events include Sunset Yoga, Tree Identification Walks, Sound Healing, Meet and Greets with the horses, and more.  All are for a nominal cost and can be viewed here: Rockefeller State Park Preserve Events
