Small Business Spotlight: Cozy in the Crib

By Kelly Fitzpatrick and Awilda Young May 29, 2024

In our Small Business Spotlight Series, I shine a light on the many local businesses that make a difference in our community.  Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of working personally with Awilda Young, founder of Cozy in the Crib.  And outside of this article, if I could build a stage to spotlight her work with my youngest I would!

After connecting through Speed Networking Westchester (have to shout out Kymberly Robinson, Esq. for her cheerleading and match-making abilities) Awilda and I hit it off right away in talking about sleep needs.  She knew a sleep deprived mom when she saw one. Even though I thought I had it (mostly) under control I decided to give it a go to ensure I was setting my baby up for success as he grew.  Brendan was at a transitional time moving out of those first 12 weeks of infancy and into more predictable patterns.  But instead of being able to follow those cues, bad habits were forming and beginning to interrupt his sleep and mine.

I'll share more about the process now that Brendan has completed his sleep plan and is continuing to make progress even without Awilda's direct support in a future article.  But for this spotlight series, tired parents of newborns and toddlers need to know:

  • There is no judgment in the sleep habits that have developed.  Awilda can coach you through the sleep method process with lots of encouragement and real talk.  She's a mom of young ones too and she gets it! You'll feel supported and encouraged along the way.
  • Awilda provides multiple levels of care through introductory phone calls, an intake form, frequent checkpoints, an app, text messages, and resources.  As Brendan is my first mostly formula fed baby, this was new to me and she even helped me with his eating schedule, too because of the correlation to sleep.
  • Before I was even half-way through working on Brendan's plan, I was already asking Awilda about availability for toddler support.  I received Brendan's closing email the same day I started Fiona's intake form. It's a testament to the tremendous benefit my family found from Awilda's help.

Awilda shares a little more about Cozy in the Crib here with us.  If you'd like to learn more, Awilda offers free consult calls. I would be happy to answer any questions as well!

What is the story behind your business?  How did you get started?

As a mom of two boys who has experienced those first few months as a new mom of not really knowing what was right or wrong.  There are so many opinions and google searches about sleep and every other baby subject. I used sleep training for my first-born Jonah, and it was the best decision I made as a new mom.  Not only did it change my life, but watching Jonah become such a great little independent sleeper made it that much better. Fast forward to almost 4 years later when I found myself repeating the same plan with Sonny and could see him following in his brothers' footsteps. I knew after the difference it had made in my life that it was something I wanted to help other moms with, and that is how Cozy in the Crib was founded.

What are some fun facts about you or your business?

I help tired parents teach their little ones to independently sleep through the night. That itself is super fun - the power of SLEEP :)

What does your business offer its' customers?

Cozy in the Crib provides parents with tools to teach their little ones a consistent bedtime routine through a specialized sleep method. This plan and our work together will lead into full nights of sleep for all.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of all my mini graduates that now all sleep 11-12 hours a night!
