In our Small Business Spotlight Series, I shine a light on the many local businesses that help to answer the go-to questions for parents. Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of getting to know Kerry Scardino, founder of Skinchanted Spa & CBD. From our first conversation, I was struck by Kerry's warmth, knowledge, and dedication to her craft. In just a few minutes, I learned more about skincare from a holistic and body positive perspective than I had ever previously. Kerry dropped so many nuggets of wisdom in that initial conversation such as the gender neutrality of skincare and ways to build healthy habits for young people. I knew instantly I wanted to continue to learn from her about ways to better care for myself and my family, too. When I visited the spa for a Zen Package (sharing more next week on this price-point approachable and oh-so-relaxing service!) I left not only feeling rejuvenated, but with samples for my baby's eczema and a new understanding of how to best treat it, as well with the feeling that I had spent time with a new friend.
Sidenote: I also left with a piece of hand-crafted jewelry because Skinchanted is not only a place where you feel beautiful, it is a place that IS also beautiful. Art, whimsy (what do I love more than whimsy? I couldn't honestly say), handmade gifts, textiles, the CBD line, it's all curated with love and style. It's entirely Kerry and I know you will love that about it, too!
After twelve years in business, Kerry is branching out in new directions to build a legacy that extends even beyond the walls of the spa. Just recently, she supported forty-four girl scouts in developing their own skincare habits and toolkits. And with the launch of Skinchanted CBD in 2022, treatments take on a new level of nourishment with healing opportunities for chronic pain, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and internal and external damage.

What is the story behind your business? How did you get started?
Skinchanted Spa was established in 2012 in Peekskill, NY, where our roots in holistic skincare developed. Kerry has always been interested in hair removal; having shaped, waxed and tweezed high school friends' brows on her childhood bed! Another integral part of Kerry's journey to skincare was when her mom unfortunately suffered from skin cancer and had to have a surgery to reclaim clear and healthy margins. Kerry became a NYS Licensed Esthetician in 2010, and then became a Certified Oncology-Trained Esthetician in 2012. Our “Caring Cancer Facial” was and still remains one of our top speciality services offered at Skinchanted Spa, as well as full body waxing — including manzilian waxes, facials, and body treatments. In 2022 Kerry saw a need for a high potency, low cost, organic CBD line where “we do the research, so you don’t have to” and thus, Skinchanted CBD was born! Skinchanted Spa & CBD have flourished over the years and now we can proudly serve our community with multiple estheticians on the Skinchanted Crew, ready to service and pamper you 7-days a week! Our motto is and has always been "It's Time For You.”
What are some fun facts about you or your business?
Kerry started her career out of college working for Estée Lauder Corporately and had interacted with their 40 beauty product lines before even becoming an esthetician. After esthetics school, Kerry's first gig was performing Laser Liposuction with a Dr. in Hartsdale. When Skinchanted Spa was born, Kerry took her own beliefs of self-care and self-love and adapted a way to focus on healing from within using Hylunia Skincare, which is free of inflammatory fragrances, alcohols and dyes. As a two-time Best of Westchester winning spa, Kerry operated as a "one lady show" for the first 7 years of Skinchanted's journey. Fast forward to 2024 and the whole Skinchanted Crew lend their expertise and passion to pamper and educate our client-friends. Skinchanted CBD was initially invented because Kerry's senior pup "Boo-Boo Bear" was in desperate need of an attitude adjustment and relief from arthritis. Kerry realized that Skinchanted CBD could also help her own anxiety, arthritis and overall body wellness, and figured she couldn't be alone in this need! Skinchanted just celebrated 12 years in business in Peekskill in April 2024, where the City of Peekskill had officially recognized that April 4th shall hereby be known as "Skinchanted Spa & CBD Day!”
What does your business offer its' customers?
We offer our customers a truly unique and tranquil experience. We pride ourselves on not having a ‘factory mentality’ and adjust our treatments based on our clients' individual needs. We at Skinchanted Spa truly want to help our community feel better about themselves and assist in their skincare journeys, and we do so by using the cleanest and purest products that we can. We believe that skincare doesn't have to be torture and know that trends come and go -- but skin *health* is always in and gender-neutral! The Skinchanted Crew are highly skilled NYS licensed estheticians who are thoroughly trained and adapt the principles of decreasing inflammation by soothing the skin with the use of Skinchanted CBD massage oil and facial manipulation. Our holistic treatments mean your skin will glow, collagen & elastin will be stimulated for a lasting effect in a non-invasive way, and our clients can leave their stress at the door! We are here to educate and pamper, but also tend to talk to our clients about the 'thorns and roses' of their day. We can't help but love the way our closeness to our clients helps them find their most confident and authentic selves through self-care and self-love. What are you most proud of?
We are most proud of our growth at Skinchanted Spa & CBD over the last 12 years, while still being aligned with our core values. It's very easy to get wrapped up in the hype of beauty trends and where beauty standards are going with social media marketing. I'm proudest of the impact we have on our clients, whether they are young and first timers or have mature skin that we are trying to boost with anti-aging techniques. I'm grateful we are able to achieve beautiful results with products and treatments that we can stand behind and that do not create harm for our clients' bodies. In a world where everything seems perfect, we at Skinchanted are happy to help people become the best versions of themselves, naturally. Sometimes slow and steady wins the race and if we can help one more person remember to wear sunscreen, drink water and remember gratitude for the amazing things their body and skin do daily, then our mission will continue successfully.
