Reader Question: How effective is the flu vaccine? Do I really need to get it?

There is evidence that the flu vaccine lowers the risk of flu illness when he vaccine matches the strains of the flu viruses prevalent. While it may not prevent the flu, it could lessen the severity of the illness. It is a personal preference for getting the flu vaccine. I had been getting it every year since my kids were born and last year I didn’t get it at all, and I thankfully never got sick. I believe that’s due to a handful of other healthy practices, but knowing that NOT getting the flu vaccine didn’t make me more vulnerable provided clarity.

Reader Question? Do vitamins really work? What are some good ones if so?

Honestly, I am not sure that vitamins really work. I believe in eating your vitamins and minerals and trying your best to mix up produce based on seasonality. However, there is no harm in taking a multivitamin. My go-to this is one

Reader Question: Is it better to workout in the morning afternoon evening?

Morning workouts are most effective in fat burn provided that you’ve given yourself at least 12 hours between your last meal the night before and your first meal in the morning. However, walking post dinner has proven effective in managing blood sugar which has a connection to weight loss/management. An afternoon workout seems to be as effective as trying to caffeinate around 2-4pm. So there are benefits in working out at any point of the day!

Reader Question: Any tips for fasting?

Fasting PROs:

Weight loss

Improved metabolic health: by aligning eating with your circadian rhythms.

Reduced risk of disease: Fasting can reduce the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disorders, and diabetes.
Improved blood sugar control
Improved sleep patterns

Fasting CONs:

If you don’t eat enough food during the “feasting” window, you may not see weight loss and you may be hungry after the timed eating hours. This could inhibit weight gain and blood sugar control.

If you have low blood pressure, it may not be appropriate.

If you have diabetes, it may not be advisable.

Reader Question: What are some additional heathy options to add to water?

  • Mint
  • Lime
  • Lemon
  • Cucumber
  • Orange slices
  • Hydration tabs
