With Rafter, they’ve built more than a business; they’re striving to be trusted partners for homeowners, guiding us through the complexities of upkeep and making preventative care accessible and straightforward.

The concept for Rafter was born from the founders’ shared experiences with the everyday hurdles of homeownership. Anil and Marcus, each with backgrounds in technology and business, understood that managing a home requires continuous attention, something that’s often difficult with busy schedules. Partnering with Dan Figuro, who brought years of hands-on contracting expertise, they saw an opportunity to offer a solution—a subscription service that would prevent costly repairs, saving time and money for families. What is the story behind Rafter?  How did you get started?

A few years ago, the two of us owned homes in very different parts of the country (Brooklyn and Las Vegas) when we realized that our experiences as homeowners shared some universal truths.

• Homes are incredibly complex, and there is no "one size-fits-all" manual for how to take care of them.
• Even if that manual did exist, most of us don't have the time, energy, expertise, or confidence to do everything ourselves
• We spend 90% of our time fixing problems after they occur vs. doing what we can to prevent them in the first place
• Trust is a rare feeling when it comes to the many companies and services we deal with to take care of our homes
• We have more data available about the last time we ordered food delivery than the last time we tested our smoke detectors (!!!)

Fast forward three years, one move into a pre-Revolutionary War home in Millwood, and five additional kids between our two families, and the conviction that there must be a better way was so strong that we left our jobs to build Rafter.  We're proud to be starting this journey right here in Westchester.

Our mission is to make the home ownership experience better and save people time, money, and stress!

What are some fun facts about your team?

1. Marcus and Anil, the co-founders, have known each other for 20 years! Over that time, we’ve been college friends, neighbors, and playdate coordinators.
2. Between our two families, we have 6 kids all under the age of 6 - so we understand how easy it is to let home maintenance slip!
3. Anil’s home in Millwood was built in 1750 as a combined residence/general store and was reportedly frequented by George Washington!

What does Rafter offer its' customers?

The simplest answer is that we offer peace of mind! For most people, their home is their most important financial investment, and our mission is to make it easier to take care of it and protect it. 

What are you most proud of? 

The impact we’ve had for our Westchester members already! Whether that’s checking off a laundry list of to-dos, saving a member over $1000 on an inflated service-provider estimate, or helping a member navigate and resolve a late-night electrical emergency - we are building Rafter with a “homeowner-first” approach. We know that can be hard to find in the home services industry, and our vision is to change that!
