A look inside Forest Preschool

Thinking About Preschool?

Here's Everything You Need to Know.

Families spend a lot of time an energy deciding about the best Preschool opportunity for their child--it's the foundation upon which they will built the rest of their life. In an area like Westchester, where competition is high and waitlists are frequent, you want a preschool that works perfectly for your needs. We've been operating since 2017, providing a unique and proven approach to education that puts your child's education first.

It's no mystery that our approach is different--it's something a lot of families are interested in, but perhaps hesitant. So let's talk about how we do things.
What's In a Forest School?

Our Preschool locations lean into the natural environments they exist within--it creates two separate environments with different activities and focuses--all with the same approach to education. We gather our materials dependent on the location and engage in the adventures and experiences that natural blossom from the seasons in front of us. If you want to learn a bit more, read below to find times, structure, and examples of a day.

A Day in Forest Preschool:

Example of a Morning (9:15a-12:00p) / Afternoon (1:00p-3:45p) Session

9:15a / 1:00p Freeplay Staff lead students in a bird-beak game.

9:30a / 1:15p Snack and Story Kids sit on tree stumps in our outdoor classroom and eat snack while listening to a story about bird nests.

9:45a / 1:30p Adventure Group outing to build bird nests in grove of small trees away from tent, with opportunities to play along the way.

11:30a / 3:15p Snack and Story Kids return to tent for a second snack, and story about bird migration.

11:45a / 3:30p Freeplay Kids play freely, often inspired by the day's events.

12:00p / 3:45p Parent Pickup Teachers greet parents and share stories of the day.

Our Marsh Sanctuary location has an incredible range of environments to engage with. We do our free play and many of our games in our expansive field, take snack and story under the parachute down by the garden, and explore the woods and pond. The area is full of wildlife and plants and the garden offers a lot of opportunity for learning about cultivation and food!

At Brinton Brook Sanctuary we use the cover of the deep forest as a backdrop for learning, with a focus on the birds and trees that we share a home with. The comprehensive trail system allows for a ton of great exploring. Our home base is a little more defined here, with an awesome enclosed area where our snack, story, and free play take place.
