North Salem Farmers Market Returns May 10 with Expanded Offerings!

By Natalie Gehrels April 25, 2025

The North Salem Farmers Market returns with new energy and expanded offerings, launching its 2025 season on Saturday, May 10 from 9 AM to 2 PM in the picturesque hamlet Croton Falls on Back Street. Held every second Saturday of the month from May through October, this year’s market invites visitors to explore a dynamic mix of 30+ thoughtfully curated vendors, live music curated by Ian Hendrickson-Smith (The Roots, Uncle Cheef), kid-friendly programming, and a renewed commitment to agriculture, sustainability, accessibility, and deep community connection.

“At its heart, the North Salem Farmers Market is a celebration of community,” says Natalie Marie Gehrels, Founder and Co-Director. “Our vision is to create a gathering place where food, farming, and culture meet. This year we have expanded the market so it’s more than a place to shop—it’s a place to spend time connecting with your neighbors. Each month offers something new to discover. It’s a curated experience of the most diverse local producers, from wild-fermented cider to native blooms to joyful music and food that tells the story of our region.”

What’s New This Year:

  • An Expanded Vendor Lineup: Expect a rotating selection of 30+ vendors each month, with a robust increase in fresh produce, organic vegetables, fruits, and herbs alongside specialty prepared foods like bagels, pickles, sausages, kimchi, and mustard. New vendors join market favorites like Montauk Catch Club, LMNOP Bakery, and Wild Iris Flowers, offering even more variety for weekly grocery shopping or a leisurely lunch.

  • Live Music Curated by Ian Hendrickson-Smith (The Roots, Uncle Cheef, Brewster): Each market will feature high-caliber music performances with a focus on creating a joyful, fun atmosphere that encourages visitors to stay, eat, and connect. “Working with NSFM is about building community and bringing people joy through the power of live music. Gathering with other artisans is such a wonderful experience in appreciation for each other's art forms. Being able to offer these events for our community is a gift that we relish. So come out and enjoy yourself, support a local artist, get some deliciously crafted food and snuggy up with someone and listen to our sounds. Doesn't get much better than that!” -  Ian Hendrickson-Smith (The Roots, Uncle Cheef, Brewster)

  • Expanded Seating and Kid Activities: Families can enjoy seating areas, games, and rotating kids’ programming offered by local cultural organizations, ensuring something for all ages to enjoy.

A Mission Rooted in Soil and Community

North Salem Farmers Market is distinguished by its rigorous curation, ensuring vendors represent a broad range of categories with minimal duplication. “We’ve worked hard to offer something for every shopper—from those seeking organic produce to families stocking their kitchens for the week ahead,” says Jonas Andersen, Co-Director. “This market exists to support a local food system and provide direct access to fresh food.”

The market also aims to educate and empower, with long-term goals to expand into a weekly event and develop programming for children, seniors, and underserved communities. “Knowing who grows your food, how it’s made, and where it comes from—these are powerful forms of knowledge,” says Gehrels. “We’re committed to building a market that not only nourishes, but uplifts.”

The North Salem Farmers Market is operated by a grassroots, not-for-profit organization. Visitors can support by purchasing a NSFM t-shirt, hat and sign up for the mailing list to receive monthly updates throughout the season.

An Invitation to Discover Something New

For first-time visitors and returning regulars alike, the market is designed to feel welcoming, inspiring, and enriching. “Come for 45 minutes—or make a day of it,” says Andersen. “Grab your groceries, share a conversation with a farmer, let the kids explore, and enjoy lunch under the trees.”
