If you are anything like my family you'll also be happy to know that at many apple orchards this time of year, it's likely you'll also find pumpkins and sweet treats - hello, cider donuts! Several farms offer a variety of others attractions to choose from, such as tractor rides, special events, and live music.

Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm
1335 White Hill Road, Yorktown Heights

Located in Yorktown Heights, this farm is open for apple picking. The farm has Gala, MacIntosh, Baldwin, Cortland and Macoun apples available. In October you will find Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and other varieties of apples to pick. You'll also find a corn maze, farm stand, winery and bakery. Contact the farm in advance to find out exactly what is available. The farm is open Wednesday through Monday from 10 a.m. - 4:30 pm (closed on Tuesday).

Before apple season is in full swing, there is an opportunity for peach picking! Peach Picking Tickets: Peach pick your own tickets are currently available Friday, August 26th through Sunday, August 28th. The orchard makes tickets available according to picking and crop conditions, which are monitored daily so be sure to check back in regularly for additional picking dates. Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard is also home to the bbq lunch, cidery, apple flavored goodies such as donuts and slushies and live music during the apple picking season.
Apple picking is available September through October.

Stuart's has over 20 varieties of apples to pick in September and October and apple picking is underway. September apples include: MacIntosh, Jonamac, Cortland, Macoun and Gala. On weekends families can enjoy a hayride and the farmstand. The farm is open for picking daily from 10 am - 5 pm. Stuart's has free parking and no picking fee.

This family owned and operated farm in North Salem is open for apple picking from 9 am - 5 pm daily. Reservations are required for apple picking (reserve a spot online). Other fun for kids includes a corn maze and hayrides. $5 parking fee on weekends.
306 Frozen Ridge Road, Newburgh

Located in Newburgh, NY (less than an hour from our area), this farm is currently picking ten varieties of apples plus other fruits and vegetables. Food is available at the concession stand, including cider donuts. Admission is $7 per person weekdays, and $10 per person on the weekends. Children 2 and under are free.
43 Mount Zion Road, Marlboro, NY

This 40-acre pick-your-own farm is open daily from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and apple picking is underway. Check the events calendar for live music and special happenings. Parents may also enjoy the winery aspects of this orchard. Free parking and free admission.
9 Fishkill Farm Road, Hopewell Junction, NY

For more than just apple picking, check out Fishkill Farms which includes an apple orchard and diversified fruit and vegetable farm. In addition to 40 acres of apples, they grow peaches, nectarines, pears, a variety of vegetables and pumpkins, all of which are available in season for pick-your-own. There is a farm store and cider bar and grill onsite. Online reservations are required to pick your own fruit and vegetables (reservations are specific to what you want to pick). Open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed on Mondays).

This 120-acre farm is open daily from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. for apple picking. There is also lots more to do, including tractor-pulled hayrides, live music and entertainment, petting zoo, fun park (weekends only) and corn maze (weekends only). They also have a climbing course - Treetop Adventures - that requires an advance reservation

Apple picking season is in full swing at this 54-acre farm in Highland, NY. We love DuBois Farm for their children's entertainment, such as animals to see, a duck pond, and the tiny town! Check their site for special events and a calendar of live music. A tavern and pizza stand with brick-over pizza is also onsite. This farm has free admission and free parking and is open daily from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
