Do you ever find yourself heading to a restaurant with the little ones in tow with all the hopes in the world of a fun night out? And then sometime between ordering and the food arriving you look at your kids and say to yourself, "Whyyyy did I think this time would be any different?" I've been there. A lot! But over the years we have found our local favorites where our kids are welcomed and the food is delicious. From our family to yours, here are a few kid-friendly restaurants in and around our Armonk, Chappaqua, Mount Kisco, and Pleasantville neck of the woods.
252 Main Street, Mt Kisco, NY 10549
(914) 666-5676
Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Mt. Kisco diner is an absolute favorite for celebrating special occasions. While the food is delicious any day, their specialty pancakes and over-the-top shakes level up this family dining experience to the place to go for a birthday brunch with kids. It's even where our oldest two learned about the new baby at the time. It's spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. Our kids recommend the breakfast tacos.
39 Marble Ave, Pleasantville, NY
(914) 618 - 3355
Open daily
Southern Table is great for a date night, but it's also a standout for family meals. The food is accessible for kids - I mean you can't go wrong with fried chicken - but it's farm-fresh and really well seasoned for the adults. We like the family style options. Their specialty cocktails are also a treat and the ambience both indoors and outdoors is elevated. It doesn't read like a typical family restaurant, but with the southern hospitality and delicious food you won't be disappointed. This is also a great place to bring extended family or meet friends with kids for brunch.
86 S Greeley Ave, Chappaqua, NY 10514
(914) 861-8500
Open daily
We love a Chappaqua Friday night at Taco Street! With bench-style seating options and the open garage style door, kids have room to move about and take in the sights. The staff is bend-over-backwards accommodating, but not in the way that makes you want to apologize for your kids being kids. More in the way that it all just feels like family. Special requests for the kids - like chocolate milk or sauce on the side - they've got you covered before you even ask. We go for a selection of tacos and the kids love the street corn and quesadillas, but the burritos and bowls are delicious too!
Wood + Fire Pizza Pleasantville
59 Marble Ave, Pleasantville, NY 10570
(914) 747-2611
Open daily
Wood + Fire has expanded over the years and offers something for all ages! Go on a Friday night and you'll hear the music bumping at the bar but sitting outside or elsewhere in the restaurant and you've got lots of space for family time. My son does love to dance to the beat on the way to the bathroom. While there are many delicious pizza options to choose from, the menu goes far beyond just that. Portions are large and the drinks are creative!
The Valhalla Crossing Restaurant
2 Cleveland Street, Valhalla, NY 10595
(914) 682-4076
Open Tues - Sun
Before I was a mama myself, one of my best friends used to bring me here with her kiddos and now I love continuing the tradition. Eat in the caboose to watch the trains go by - it never ceases to amaze the small people and we love to wave at the passengers too. If they happen to be having a private event, no worries because the main dining area is equally impressive. Burgers and wings are what The Crossing is known for, but you won't go wrong with anything on the menu.
369 Lexington Ave, Mt Kisco, NY 10549
(845) 261-3279
Open Wednesday - Sunday
This guide would not be complete without Barrel House. The definition of family friendly, (kids eat free on Sundays, there's plenty of games and coloring sheets, free crafts once a month), Barrel House is spacious enough for the small people to roam a bit while you enjoy great beer and outstanding food. There's something new and delicious on the menu each time we go - the autumn salad is just the right choice to accompany your wings and burgers. Kids and adults alike love the shakes. Sit inside or outside and stay awhile - brewery culture is all about that linger. Barrel House also supports organizations throughout the community on the regular, so you know your dollars are going a long way locally. Read more about Barrel House's pandemic evolution story here.
And while not in our immediate area of Armonk, Chappaqua, Mount Kisco, and Pleasantville - I have to give honorable mentions to 105-Ten (our favorite place to order from during the height of the pandemic) in Briarcliff Manor and Yuka Latin Fusion (brunch, brunch, brunch!) in Croton-on-Hudson as two other spots we love to frequent as a fam.
